Custom Orders

Want a custom acrylic template made from a bag pattern you already own? We're happy to help when designer permissions allow it. Read our custom order policy for more information.

Please follow the steps below before submitting your request.

How Custom Orders Work

Step 1. Make sure you own the pattern

Before requesting a custom template, you must have already purchased the pattern from the designer.

We may ask for proof of purchase before moving forward with your order.

Step 2. Check whether the designer allows templates

Some designers have already given permission for their patterns to be made into acrylic templates. Others do not allow template production.

If the designer has approved template production, we can review your request for a custom order.

If the designer does not allow templates, we will not be able to make the set.

Step 3. If needed, request one-off permission from the designer

If the designer has not already given blanket permission, you may contact them to request approval for a one-off custom template set.

A one-off custom order means:

  • The template is made one time only
  • It is sold only to you
  • It is not listed for sale on our website
  • It is not reproduced for other customers unless the designer gives permission for those orders as well

How to request permission:

You can use our One-Off Acrylic Template Permission Request form to make this process easier.

Simply fill in your details and save the form. Send it to the designer to complete and return (along with items listed in step 4) to support@thattemplateshop.com for review.

Step 4. Send us your request

Once you are ready, send us:

  • The pattern name
  • The designer name
  • Proof of pattern purchase
  • Designer permission, if required
  • Any details we should know about the order (Include all engraving, zero engraving, add cutouts for seam allowances, add rotary cut outs, standard cut or fussy cut, have separate pieces completely for stabilizers, add additional cut list pieces, be as detailed as possible)

This helps us review your request as quickly as possible.

Step 5. We review the pattern

After we receive your information, we will review the pattern to make sure it is suitable for acrylic template production.

Some patterns may not be a good fit for templates depending on layout, construction, or piece formatting.

Step 6. Design, Approval & Final Quote

If your request is approved, we will begin by sending your pattern to our graphic designer to create a custom cut file.

An $85 deposit is required before design work begins.

  • This deposit is applied toward the total design cost
  • It covers the time required to create the cut file if the order is not completed

Our shop rate for design work is $85 per hour.

  • Most patterns can be converted into a cut file in under one hour
  • Larger or more complex patterns with many pieces or detailed construction may require additional design time

Once the cut file is complete, we will send it to you for approval.

After the design is approved, we will provide your final total based on any additional design time (if required), materials, production of the template set, and shipping.

Why we can't provide an exact quote upfront

Each pattern is unique, and the final cost of a template set depends on factors we can only determine after creating the cut file—such as the number of pieces, layout efficiency, and overall material usage.

Rather than estimating and risking overcharging or underquoting, we create the cut file first so we can provide an accurate, fair final price based on the actual design.

To get started, we require a design deposit, which is applied toward your total cost. Once the design is complete, you'll receive your final quote before moving into production.

How to get a general price idea

If you'd like a rough idea of pricing before getting started, we recommend browsing template sets currently available on our website.

Look for sets with a similar number of pieces, overall size, and complexity to your pattern. This can help give you a general sense of what your custom template set may cost.

Step 7. Production

Once final payment is completed, we will move forward with cutting and preparing your acrylic template set.

Each custom order is produced specifically for the approved customer and is not listed publicly unless separate designer permission is later granted.

Step 8. Completion & Shipping

Your finished template set will be carefully packaged and shipped to you.

You'll receive tracking information once your order is on its way.

Important Notes

  • We only create templates for patterns that are authorized by the designer
  • Purchase of a paper or PDF pattern does not automatically give permission for template production
  • We reserve the right to decline any request that does not meet designer permission requirements
  • Custom orders are intended for personal use unless otherwise approved
